As a foodie, I often have a critical tone in my voice when I utter the “processed food” phrase. That’s because the majority of processed foods have a list of unidentifiable chemistry terms that do not even sound edible. Those mysterious terms are confusing and fill me with dread for myself and anyone else that has to consume them on a regular basis.

But what if the chemically terms aren’t as bad as I think they are? The truth is, I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to knowing what those terms refer to and what they do in the body. That’s why I am dedicating part of this blog to periodically deciphering the things on these labels.

I’m starting this series off with an easy one. I enjoy veggie burgers, but finding ones that are affordable and well made can be difficult. These vegan veggie burgers from Earth Grown, available at Aldi’s, are affordable and filled with recognizable ingredients. The only one I had to look up was tamari, which I learned is a wheat-free Japanese sauce similar to soy sauce but much thicker and richer in flavor.
