Nom Nom Paleo

The internet is full of great creators, and the food world is home to many of them. However, there are few that have not only excelled in cooking content but have also created a stand-out style like Michelle Tam at Nom Nom Paleo.

Michelle started her food blog [NomNomPaleo.com] in 2010 to document her journey with a paleo diet. I will admit that I have only recently discovered Michelle’s cookbooks because only recently have I begun my own Paleo diet journey. I love the graphic novel format, but mostly I love the step-by-step photos that give great guidance on making the recipes.

My wife made the cassava flour gyoza from Nom Nom Paleo: Let’s Go! and they were delicious. As with most cookbooks, the hunt to collect all the ingredients took us to three grocery stores and cost a lot more than we were expecting to spend on a single dish. The actual making of the gyoza gave us true appreciation for the store-bought convenience. That said, the taste was a big reward for the effort.

Good ingredients make good food. Cooking just simple proteins and sides can get boring after awhile. Expanding our abilities to be able to cook recognizable favorites like gyoza is a goal I’m sure we all have, but the effort and the expense can be prohibitive deterrents. I think the key is to remember that making food is a compounding skill that exponentially grows as one tries new things.

There are a lot of cookbooks out there, but Michelle Tam makes the format more enjoyable by bringing in the interesting graphic, a playful spirit, and desirable recipes for the whole family.
